Work Experience

Software Engineering Intern: Optum (UnitedHealth Group)

Jun 2026 - Aug 2026

My first software engineering internship in Optum's Technology Development Program was an amazing learning experience. Throughout the summer, my intern-led team created ServiceNow Knowledge Desk, an internal tool that uses an LLM to summarize ticket data for the enterprise documentation team and eliminates over 1 million dollars in annual spending by replacing third-party software. We designed our product from scratch based on feedback from our stakeholders, and landed on a comprehensive dashboard interface that analytically highlights gaps in the current knowledge base combined with a RAG-powered chatbot for detailed responses about the data.

A large part of the internship was learning how to use enterprise software for cloud deployment. After exploring many options, we decided to use a complete Azure stack with Azure Containers along with Azure AI Search for the RAG model. I implemented a CI/CD pipeline complete with tests, lint, quality gates, and OIDC deployment via Terraform to ensure safe pushes every time. Our backend was written in Python, with a Vanilla JS frontend and FastAPI endpoints. What I learned most from this experience was how to work in ambiguity. When we arrived the project was aimless and disconnected from what the knowledge team actually needed. By keeping clear communication and building our understanding one step at a time, we were able to learn and thrive as a team.

Information Technologies Intern: Dao Tech Solutions

Jun 2022 - Sep 2023

At Dao Tech I worked onsite with a charter school client as an intern in the Information Technology department. Over the course of two summers and the school year, I helped implement a new technology inventory system with Google Workspace and a custom website for data entry. Throughout the process, I registered newly ordered laptops and transitioned the school from a computer cart system to one where each student was designated a Chromebook to use at home.

I learned about troubleshooting techniques and wiring practices while repairing schoolwide Ethernet, phone, and Wi-Fi access. I also solved tickets and worked directly with teachers and students to diagnose, repair, and update various computers, including Chromebooks, Macbooks, and Dell Laptops, with issues including broken screens, dead batteries, and software issues.
